SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 161
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
recognize the students of El Paso County who were named to the
Community Scholars internship program; and
WHEREAS, Operating under Community Scholars, Incorporated,
the internship program provides high school sophomores, juniors,
and seniors, as well as college students, the opportunity to
develop leadership skills through public policy and economic
development research projects; and
WHEREAS, The high school interns work in small groups on
state government funding and local issues, and the college
students mentor the high school students and help them conduct
research and present their projects; training sessions take
place during the summer at El Paso Community College campuses and
at The University of Texas at El Paso; and
WHEREAS, Participants in the program are selected from
diverse groups throughout El Paso County and must demonstrate
challenging academic and community service interests; and
WHEREAS, The program provides the opportunity for students
of different races or ethnic groups to work together for a common
goal and encourages them to put the community's interests ahead
of individual interests; and
WHEREAS, The young scholars selected for this year
are Linda Amaro, Dietra Brevard, Ricardo Dominguez, Jr.,
Angelica Hernandez, Starr Jimenez, Albert Montaño, Renee Padilla,
Jon Ramirez, and Ruben Salinas; and
WHEREAS, These young scholars are ambassadors of their
schools and their communities, and they deserve recognition for
their hard work and their exemplary leadership; now, therefore,
be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
78th Legislature, hereby commend these outstanding students on
their accomplishments and their participation in the Community
Scholars program and extend to them best wishes for the future;
and, be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared
for these scholars as an expression of high regard from the
Texas Senate.
