SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 163
In Memory
of
Alejandro Acosta, Sr.
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the citizens
of El Paso in mourning the loss of Alejandro Acosta, Sr., who died
October 15, 2002, at the age of 76; and
WHEREAS, Alejandro Acosta was a 1944 graduate of Bowie High
School, where he was class president all four years; in 1986, he
received a paralegal degree from El Paso Community College, where
he maintained a 4.0 grade-point average and served as president
of the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society; he also attended
The University of Texas at El Paso; and
WHEREAS, He served with the United States Army during
World War II and the Korean War and earned an expert marksmanship
medal; at the age of 19, he was the youngest man to ever reach the
rank of master sergeant; and
WHEREAS, After his military service, he was employed for 28
years with El Paso Natural Gas Company, where he served as a data
processing supervisor and was recognized as a pioneer in the IBM
computer field; and
WHEREAS, A man of integrity, strength, and generosity,
Mr. Acosta gave unselfishly of his time to others, and his
wisdom, warmth, and valued counsel will not be forgotten by those
who knew him; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Acosta was a devoted husband, father, and
grandfather, and he leaves behind memories that will be treasured
forever by his family and many friends; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
78th Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the
bereaved family of Alejandro Acosta, Sr.: his wife, Lucy;
his sons, Alejandro Acosta, Jr., and his wife, Rene, and
Daniel G. Acosta, and his wife, Susan; his brother Jose Acosta;
and his seven grandchildren and great-grandson; and, be it
further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared
for his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the
Texas Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it
do so in memory of Alejandro Acosta, Sr.
