SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 180
In Memory
of
Dr. John Lindsey Bradley
WHEREAS, The passing of Dr. John Lindsey Bradley of Tyler
on May 13, 2002, at the age of 85, has brought a great loss to all
who were privileged to know this esteemed physician and retired
army colonel; and
WHEREAS, A native of Moorhead, Mississippi, Dr. Bradley
was born on May 7, 1917, and earned his bachelor's degree from
Mississippi State University in 1939; he graduated from the
University of Tennessee Medical School in Memphis in 1942, and he
served his internship at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Memphis and
his residency at Georgetown University School of Medicine in
Washington, D.C.; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Bradley was a colonel in the United States
Army Medical Corps and served his country in World War II, the
Korean War, and the Vietnam War; during his outstanding 28-year
military career, this dedicated physician served two tours of
duty in Heidelberg, Germany, and further distinguished himself
as a physician at Madigan General Hospital in Tacoma, Washington,
as chief of staff at Walter Reed Army Medical Center, and as
commander of the hospital center at Fort Ord in California; for
his exemplary service, Dr. Bradley was awarded the Legion of
Merit with oak leaf cluster; and
WHEREAS, From 1971 to 1985, Dr. Bradley practiced medicine
with the Texas Department of Health in El Paso, where he served as
the director of the West Texas Public Health Region; in addition,
he was a lifetime member of the American Medical Association, a
member of the Texas Medical Association, the Retired Officers
Association, and the Downtown Rotary Club of Tyler, and a former
president of the East El Paso Rotary Club; and
WHEREAS, Through his military and professional
achievements, John Lindsey Bradley served this state and
nation with honor, integrity, and devotion, and his myriad
contributions to his fellow citizens will not soon be
forgotten; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
78th Legislature, hereby pay tribute to the life of
Dr. John Lindsey Bradley and extend sincere sympathy to the
members of his family: to his wife of 60 years, Bonney; to his
son, J. Lindsey Bradley, Jr., and daughter-in-law, Sharlotte;
to his daughter, Catherine A. Bradley; to his son, William E.
Bradley; to his grandchildren, Elizabeth Bradley Jouett,
John C. Bradley, M.D., Evan A. Howard, and Kelty E. Howard;
to his great-grandchildren, Jack Jouett, Carter Jouett, and
Campbell Bradley; to his brother, Paul Bradley; to his sister,
Esther Bradley Baker; and to his other relatives and many
friends; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be
prepared for the members of his family and that when the
Texas Senate adjourns this day, it do so in memory of
Dr. John Lindsey Bradley.
