SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 187
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
recognize Patricia McKee for her 44 years of outstanding service
to Camp Fire USA; and
WHEREAS, Patricia McKee became a Camp Fire volunteer in
1958, when her daughter was a Bluebird; after 12 years as a
volunteer, she was named executive director of Camp Fire USA's
seven-county Tejas Council in 1970; and
WHEREAS, As the leader of the Tejas Council for the next 32
years, Pat brought energetic and innovative leadership to the
organization; under her direction, the council established an
after-school program that is now available on seven campuses of
the Waco Independent School District; she was also responsible
for the establishment of parenting education classes, conflict
resolution seminars, and money management classes at three of
Waco's public housing developments; and
WHEREAS, In addition, through the creation of partnerships
with more than 40 community agencies, Pat McKee ensured the
development of programs that help young people grow into
productive and responsible members of society, such as Kids Care,
Teen Leadership Waco, and Teen Volunteers Center; and
WHEREAS, For her innovative programs, Pat has been
recognized with national awards by Camp Fire USA; she has also
received the Community Builder Award from the Masonic Grand Lodge
and the Pathfinders Award from the Young Women's Christian
Association; and
WHEREAS, Pat consistently reached out to all children in
the communities served by the Tejas Council; when she retired in
2002, she left a much admired legacy of service to others, and she
provided for the future of many young people involved in Camp
Fire by establishing the Pat and Goodson McKee Endowment Fund to
benefit the Camp Fire USA Tejas Council; and
WHEREAS, Pat McKee has enriched the lives and futures
of many young Texans, and she deserves recognition for her
outstanding contributions to Camp Fire USA; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
78th Legislature, hereby commend Patricia McKee for her
dedication to young people and her exceptional accomplishments
and extend best wishes to her for the future; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
her as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
