SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 190
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
recognize the citizens of Hood County and to proclaim
April 1, 2003, as Hood County Day at the State Capitol; and
WHEREAS, Hood County was established in 1866 and was
named for John Bell Hood, a Texas patriot and lieutenant general
in the Confederate Army; and
WHEREAS, Hood County is traversed by the Paluxy and Brazos
rivers and is home to Lake Granbury; it is therefore an excellent
area for boating, camping, fishing, and other recreational
activities; the county is known for its agribusiness, and hay,
pecans, and peanuts are its major crops; and
WHEREAS, Granbury, the county seat, was founded in 1854;
the Granbury Opera House, which dates back to the 1880s, and the
Hood County Courthouse contribute to the historic ambience of
the downtown area; residents proudly display the city's many
cultural riches during the annual December candlelight tour,
which includes such historic homes as Captain's House Bed and
Breakfast, the Iron Horse Inn, the Dabney House, and the
Pearl Street Inn; and
WHEREAS, The county is proud to have gained recognition
for its preservation of the area's rich history; Granbury's town
square is on the National Register of Historic Places list and
was selected as "The Best Town Square in Texas" by readers of
Texas Highways magazine; and
WHEREAS, The people of Hood County are industrious and
innovative Texans who have made the region an excellent area in
which to live and visit, and they deserve recognition for their
contribution to our state; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
78th Legislature, hereby pay tribute to these exemplary citizens
and their county on Hood County Day at the State Capitol; and, be
it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
the Hood County delegation as an expression of esteem from the
Texas Senate.
