SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 194
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
recognize Dr. Melvin Von Wade, Sr., on the occasion of his
inauguration as president of the National Missionary Baptist
Convention of America; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Wade is a graduate of Bishop College, and he
attended Perkins Theological Seminary at Southern Methodist
University; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Wade has served as pastor of Bethlehem Baptist
Church in Dallas and Mount Pilgrim Baptist Church in Houston;
since 1975, he has been the pastor of Mount Moriah Baptist Church
in Los Angeles, California; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Wade has brought the healing word of God to
many by serving as a citywide evangelist in 12 major cities in the
United States; he also serves as vice president of the California
Missionary Baptist State Convention; and
WHEREAS, More than 10,000 delegates from across the
country will witness the inauguration of Dr. Wade as president of
the National Missionary Baptist Convention of America during the
2003 Winter Board Meeting, which is being held in Houston from
February 24 through February 27, 2003; and
WHEREAS, Upon assuming this new position, Dr. Wade becomes
the spiritual leader to countless individuals, congregations,
and ministers in his denomination; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
78th Legislature, hereby commend Dr. Melvin Von Wade, Sr.,
on his outstanding ministry and extend congratulations to him
on this memorable occasion; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
him as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
