SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 195
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
recognize the Fifth Annual KLLL CMN Radiothon to benefit the
Children's Hospital at University Medical Center in Lubbock; and
WHEREAS, Sponsored by the Children's Miracle Network and
hosted by KLLL, the radiothon raises funds that provide program
support, patient services, and the purchase of state-of-the-art
medical equipment for the Children's Hospital at University
Medical Center, its affiliated health care partners, and the
Texas Tech Health Sciences Center pediatric clinic; and
WHEREAS, The four-day radio broadcast will begin during
the afternoon of February 26 and end during the evening of
March 1, 2003; listeners will be encouraged to call in financial
pledges, and they will have the opportunity to bid on fabulous
auction items; the broadcast will feature "miracle stories" from
pediatric patients and their families who have overcome severe
illness, diseases, or injury, thanks to the hospital's medical
intervention; and
WHEREAS, The Children's Hospital at University Medical
Center takes great pride in taking care of the whole child and
renders service based on need, not on a patient's ability to
pay; the hospital treats children suffering from all types
of afflictions, including cancer, heart and muscular disease,
birth defects, cerebral palsy, acquired immunodeficiency disease
syndrome, and trauma; and
WHEREAS, Each year, more than 5,000 children benefit
from the outstanding care offered at the Children's Hospital at
University Medical Center; another 20,000 children are cared for
through outpatient surgery and affiliated clinics; and
WHEREAS, KLLL's radiothon is a community-wide effort to
ensure the provision of excellent medical care to Texas' young
citizens; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
78th Legislature, hereby commend KLLL and the Children's
Miracle Network for their work on behalf of the young people
of our state and extend best wishes for a highly successful KLLL
CMN Radiothon; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
all associated with this event as an expression of esteem from
the Texas Senate.
