SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 205
In Memory
of
Efrain Morales Barrera
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins
the citizens of San Antonio in mourning the tragic loss of
Efrain Morales Barrera, who died February 7, 2003; and
WHEREAS, Efrain was born in Del Rio and was a proud
member of a migrant farm worker family; a graduate of
The University of Texas at Austin, he was a devout Longhorn
fan; and
WHEREAS, He was a lifelong educator and learner; a pioneer
in bilingual education, he proudly served in that field for more
than 30 years; and
WHEREAS, An exemplary citizen, Efrain served his country
as a member of Volunteers in Service to America, and he was a
strong advocate of the civil rights movement; and
WHEREAS, A man known for his charismatic personality and
his loving and gentle spirit, Efrain gave unselfishly of his time
to others, and his wisdom, warmth, and valued counsel will not be
forgotten by those who knew him; and
WHEREAS, Efrain was a devoted husband, father, and
grandfather, and he leaves behind memories that will be treasured
forever by his family and many friends; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
78th Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the
bereaved family of Efrain Morales Barrera: his wife,
Mary Barrera; his daughter, Andrea Barrera Vazquez; his son,
Tommy Felton III; his granddaughter, Teresita Felton; his
brothers, Enrique, Elliott, and Edmundo Barrera, and
Espectacion Barrera, Jr.; and many other beloved family
members; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
the members of his family as an expression of deepest sympathy
from the Texas Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this
day, it do so in memory of Efrain Morales Barrera.
