SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 208
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
recognize the students of Chapin High School for their exemplary
work during the January 11, 2003, Gift to the Mountain Day
cleanup project; and
WHEREAS, The Huskies were the largest group participating
in the second annual cleanup effort organized by about 1,500
students from 16 high schools; and
WHEREAS, Hundreds of Huskies helped clean up trash at
six sites along the Franklin Mountains; working with other
volunteers, the Huskies picked up 475 cubic yards of trash,
filling nearly 100 dumpsters; and
WHEREAS, The students' dedication and hard work have
helped restore beauty to the Franklin Mountains, a wilderness
preserve that is a habitat for many Chihuahuan Desert plants; the
mountains also provide residents and tourists opportunities for
camping, hiking, mountain biking, rock climbing, and nature
study; and
WHEREAS, Through their volunteer spirit the students of
Chapin High School have demonstrated the importance of taking
an active role in their community; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
78th Legislature, hereby commend the Chapin High School Huskies
for their diligent efforts to take care of one of El Paso's
natural wonders; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
the students of Chapin High School as an expression of esteem
from the Texas Senate.
