SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 210
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased
to recognize the fifth biennial Texas Capitol Schoolhouse
event, which is being celebrated in the Capitol Rotunda
February 26 through 27, 2003; and
WHEREAS, The Texas Capitol Schoolhouse event gives
students and teachers from across the state the opportunity
to demonstrate how technology is used in their schools and to
provide information to legislators and state leaders on how
these technologies improve the learning process; and
WHEREAS, The fifth biennial Texas Capitol Schoolhouse
event is being sponsored by Apple Computer, AeA Texas, Texas
Instruments, Intel, Hewlett-Packard, Fulbright & Jaworski,
Texas A&M University, Texas Education Agency, Texas
Telecommunications Agency, International SEMATECH, ACTV,
FG Squared, The Internet Schoolhouse, Fast Forward, NX Move,
Newsstand, Time Warner Cable, Verizon, SBC, and eSchool onLine;
and
WHEREAS, Approximately 15 school districts are
participating in the 2003 Schoolhouse, and students will
participate in a wide variety of activities, including
technology demonstrations, meetings with state officials,
capitol and legislative events, a Capitol Assembly with state
education leaders, and work on school projects and other class
assignments; and
WHEREAS, School districts participating in the Schoolhouse
include Arlington Independent School District, Austin
Independent School District, Bryan Independent School District,
Dayton Independent School District, Fort Bend Independent School
District, Georgetown Independent School District, Houston
Independent School District, Irving Independent School District,
Killeen Independent School District, Midland Independent School
District, New Braunfels Independent School District, Richardson
Independent School District, San Antonio Independent School
District, United Independent School District, and Ysleta
Independent School District; and
WHEREAS, Largely due to the continuing efforts of the
Texas Legislature and other state agencies, Texas is one of the
leading states in the nation in providing financial support for
educational technology; Texas schools spend more than a quarter
of a billion dollars every year to plan for and implement
technology in our public schools; and
WHEREAS, The fifth biennial Texas Capitol Schoolhouse
provides an excellent opportunity for legislators and the public
to observe firsthand how students are utilizing and integrating
technology in learning, and how technology in the public schools
today is helping to prepare the children of Texas for the
21st century; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
78th Legislature, hereby commend the sponsors of the fifth
biennial Texas Capitol Schoolhouse on providing the state
with this invaluable educational event; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared in
honor of the fifth biennial Texas Capitol Schoolhouse event as
an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
