SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 213

	WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to 
recognize the Honorable Kenny E. Marchant on the occasion of the 
March 7, 2003, groundbreaking ceremony for The Marchant Welcome 
Center at Southern Nazarene University in Bethany, Oklahoma; and
	WHEREAS, A member of the Texas House of Representatives, 
Kenny Marchant, a native Texan, graduated from Southern Nazarene 
University in 1973 and was awarded an honorary doctorate degree 
from the school in 1999; and
	WHEREAS, A loyal alumnus, Kenny has been a generous 
benefactor of his alma mater and an outstanding leader in the 
university community; he was elected to serve on its board of 
trustees in 1985; he has also served as the board's vice-chair 
and as the first president of the school's Foundation Board; and
	WHEREAS, Representative Marchant provides a Marchant 
Work/Study Scholarship for Southern Nazarene University students 
who qualify and offers financial assistance to pastors working on 
their master's degrees; and
	WHEREAS, An exemplary citizen, Kenny Marchant has also 
served his community and state in a number of other roles; 
he was elected to the Carrollton City Council in 1980 and to 
the Texas House of Representatives in 1987; a well known 
humanitarian, he has supported missions of mercy to churches, 
hospitals, and orphanages in Russia through the Ken Marchant 
Foundation; now, therefore, be it
	RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
78th Legislature, hereby congratulate the Honorable Kenny Marchant
on his most recent public recognition and extend best wishes to 
him for a memorable event; and, be it further
	RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for 
him as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
