SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 220
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas takes pleasure in recognizing Adair Margo for her contributions to the arts and humanities and her outstanding leadership as chairwoman of the President's Committee on the Arts and the Humanities; and WHEREAS, President George W. Bush appointed the El Paso civic leader and entrepreneur to the prestigious national arts organization last year, and she has already organized and completed three major projects; and WHEREAS, In her first year on the job, she has overseen such major events as the awards ceremony in April for the 2001 National Medal of Arts and the National Humanities Medals; the second Concert for America, memorializing the tragic events of September 11, 2001; and the Coming Up Taller Awards, recognizing excellence in community-based arts and humanities programs for youths; and WHEREAS, The success of these awards programs is attributed to Adair Margo's leadership skills, her perseverance, and her exceptional energy and dedication to her work; and WHEREAS, This well-known community leader and owner of the Adair Margo Gallery in El Paso is also active in a number of other organizations, including the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board, the El Paso Museum of Art Foundation, and the Federacion Mexicana de Asociaciones Privadas Foundation, which she helped found to improve the quality of life of individuals in the United States/Mexico border region; and WHEREAS, Adair Margo is an exemplary lady and arts advocate who has distinguished herself in her work as chairwoman of the President's Committee on the Arts and the Humanities, and her accomplishments are a source of much pride to the City of El Paso and our state; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 78th Legislature, hereby commend Adair Margo for her exceptional achievements and extend congratulations to her on her success as chair of the President's Committee on the Arts and the Humanities; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for her as an expression of high regard from the Texas Senate.
