SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 221
In Memory
of
Walter H. Freeman
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the
citizens of Beaumont in mourning the loss of Walter H. Freeman,
who died January 30, 2003; and
WHEREAS, Walter Freeman was born in Beaumont on May 17, 1923,
to Mary Robinson and Nathaniel H. Freeman; he graduated from South
Park High School and The University of Texas at Austin; and
WHEREAS, A military pilot during World War II, he saw
active duty in the Pacific campaign, completing 106 missions for
the 475 Fighter Group and 432nd Squadron, Satan's Angels; he
received numerous decorations for his service to his country,
including the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal and six Bronze
Service Stars; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Freeman was employed with John Dollinger
Steel, Incorporated, for 37 years; he retired in 1986 as vice
president of Production for the company; and
WHEREAS, An exemplary citizen, Mr. Freeman was a past
president of the Beaumont Jaycees and was active in the Beaumont
Chamber of Commerce and the West End Little League; a devout
Christian, he was a member of Calder Baptist Church; and
WHEREAS, A man of integrity, strength, and generosity,
Walter gave unselfishly of his time to others, and his wisdom,
warmth, and valued counsel will not be forgotten by those who
knew him; and
WHEREAS, Walter was a devoted husband, father, and
grandfather, and he leaves behind memories that will be treasured
forever by his family and many friends; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
78th Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the
bereaved family of Walter H. Freeman: his wife of 50 years,
Helen Hatchell Freeman; his son, David Bernsen, and his wife,
Dinah; his son, John Freeman, and his wife, Karen; his daughter,
Mary Freeman Kennedy, and her husband, Scott; his daughter,
Cyndi Freeman Boren, and her husband, Charles; his brother,
William Newnum, and his wife, Evelyn; and his 11 grandchildren;
and, be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
the members of his family as an expression of deepest sympathy
from the Texas Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this
day, it do so in memory of Walter H. Freeman.
