SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 222
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
recognize Gonzalo "Chalo" Garcia on the occasion of his recent
return to the board of the Canutillo Independent School District;
and
WHEREAS, Chalo Garcia was a member of the first school
board that helped form the Canutillo Independent School District
in 1959, and early on, he played a major role in helping to shape
the district into the highly respected school system it became;
and
WHEREAS, After its initial struggles with splitting from
the county to educate its children, the school district thrived
and became a seven-campus, high-performing entity that now
receives accolades from educators across Texas; and
WHEREAS, Chalo Garcia recently participated in a
groundbreaking ceremony on a 50-acre site for the district's
new high school, and the 72-year-old board member believes
there are even better days yet ahead for the growing district;
and
WHEREAS, The dedicated volunteer and longtime community
leader is justifiably proud of his many achievements, and he
attributes much of his hard work on behalf of his community to
the team mentality he learned in high school, where he was a star
athlete; and
WHEREAS, An exemplary citizen, Chalo Garcia has played a
major role in the betterment of the Canutillo community, and his
leadership on the school board will undoubtedly be an invaluable
asset to the Canutillo Independent School District; now,
therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
78th Legislature, hereby commend Gonzalo Garcia for his
dedication to helping with the education of the young people of
our state and extend best wishes to him for continued success on
the board of the Canutillo Independent School District; and, be
it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
him as an expression of high regard from the Texas Senate.
