SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 226
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to recognize the citizens of Hill County and the City of Hillsboro on the grand occasion of their Sesquicentennial Celebration; and WHEREAS, Residents of Hill County and Hillsboro will gather at the State Capitol on March 5, 2003, to jointly observe and celebrate their 150th anniversary; and WHEREAS, Hill County was created by the Texas Legislature on February 7, 1853, from portions of Navarro County, and it was formally organized on May 14, 1853; it was named for Dr. George Washington Hill, a pioneer Texan and a member of the cabinet of Republic of Texas President Sam Houston; and WHEREAS, On September 24, 1853, the commissioners court ordered that the town of Hillsboro be surveyed and laid out into streets to establish a Hill County seat; the city was incorporated in 1881; and WHEREAS, The City of Hillsboro has grown with the changing times, yet it has continued to maintain the charm and friendliness of a small town; the historic county courthouse located in Hillsboro was recently restored and serves as the hub of county government and as the centerpiece of the downtown business district; and WHEREAS, Each year, Hillsboro hosts a number of gala events, including the county fair, the Hill County Roundup and Rodeo, and the Pioneer Day Celebration and Parade; these events are an ideal showcase for the city's hospitality and scenic beauty; and WHEREAS, The residents of Hill County, and its county seat, Hillsboro, are justifiably proud of their history, culture, progressive development, and contributions to the heritage of the State of Texas; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 78th Legislature, hereby extend sincere congratulations and greetings to the citizens of Hill County and Hillsboro who have come to the State Capitol this day to celebrate their 150th anniversary and declare March 5, 2003, Hill County Day at the Capitol; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for the citizens of Hillsboro and Hill County as an expression of appreciation for their many contributions to our state.
