SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 239
In Memory
of
Nora Gonzalez de Montemayor
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the citizens
of Laredo in honoring the memory of a gracious and distinguished
Texan, Nora Gonzalez de Montemayor, who died September 22, 2001;
and
WHEREAS, This beloved and devoted wife, mother,
grandmother and friend enriched us with her love and compassion
and her enthusiasm and vitality; and
WHEREAS, Nora Gonzalez de Montemayor was born in
Laredo, Texas, where her wonderful warmth, helpfulness and
generosity of spirit endeared her to all who had the good fortune
to know and love her; and
WHEREAS, A talented woman, Nora always loved performing;
in high school she was an enthusiastic cheerleader, and later in
life she earned a reputation as an accomplished singer and dancer
and was especially passionate about Ballet Folklorico; in 1984,
on behalf of the Society of Martha Washington, she portrayed
Martha Dandridge Washington; and
WHEREAS, Mrs. Montemayor filled all the years allotted
to her with great kindness and loyal service to her family,
friends and community; she served Laredo in an exemplary manner
as a member and president of the Women's City Club, a member and
director of the Pan American Roundtable, a board member and
president of the Society of Martha Washington, a member of the
Blessed Sacrament Altar Society and a member of the Equestrian
Order of the Holy Sepulchre of Jerusalem and is remembered with
appreciation for her longtime support of the Kidney Foundation
of Laredo; and
WHEREAS, Preceded in death by her beloved husband,
Jose A. Montemayor, Jr., and her loving parents, Gilberto G.
and Herminia Gonzalez, this highly respected and admired woman
is deeply missed by all who knew and loved her, but her unique
presence will live on in the hearts of the many people whose
lives she touched; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
78th Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences
to the bereaved family of Nora Gonzalez de Montemayor:
her children, Jose A. Montemayor III and his wife, Marta;
Nora Idalia Montemayor; Gerardo S. Montemayor and his wife,
Mary Ellen; and Armando G. Montemayor; her sisters,
Frances G. Madison, Dora G. Wolfe and Teresa G. Ramirez;
her grandchildren; and the countless friends who comprised
her extended family; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
the members of her family as an expression of deepest sympathy
from the Texas Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this
day, it do so in memory of Nora Gonzalez de Montemayor.
