SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 240
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to pay
tribute to the Texas Transportation industry; and
WHEREAS, Transportation investment to ensure mobility
throughout Texas is essential to the economic vitality of Texas
and the quality of life of Texans; and
WHEREAS, The Texas Department of Transportation and
committees of the Texas Legislature have reported that current
level funding supports only about one third of the identified
transportation project needs in Texas; and
WHEREAS, The Texas Transportation Institute's 2002 Urban
Mobility Report cites data illustrating alarming increases in
congestion, delay, and cost pertinent to travel in Texas' major
urban areas; and
WHEREAS, Highway safety, connectivity, and system
reliability are issues important to citizens throughout Texas;
and
WHEREAS, Texans interested in transportation and mobility
have expressed a desire to designate a single day during the
78th Session of the Texas Legislature for focus on the importance
of transportation and mobility in Texas; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
78th Legislature, hereby declare February 26, 2003, Texas
Transportation Day at the State Capitol.
