SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 252
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to recognize Tammie Y. Pace on her promotion to the position of captain with the Houston Police Department; and WHEREAS, Tammie Pace earned a bachelor's degree from the University of Houston and a master's degree in criminal justice management from Sam Houston State University; she is also a graduate of the 164th Session of the Federal Bureau of Investigation's National Academy; and WHEREAS, Captain Pace has ably served the police department in a number of divisions, including emergency communications, jail, Southwest Patrol, special operations, and planning and research; and WHEREAS, She was promoted to sergeant in 1988 and subsequently worked with seven divisions, including the Major Offenders Division, the Professional Development Command, and the Office of the Chief of Police; and WHEREAS, In 1998, she was promoted to the rank of lieutenant and became the first female lieutenant assigned to the Training Academy; with her recent promotion to the rank of captain, Tammie Pace has become the first African-American female to hold such a position in the history of the Houston Police Department; and WHEREAS, Officer Pace has demonstrated a strong dedication to her career in law enforcement by actively assuming positions of leadership with countless organizations and committees; for her exemplary work as a police officer, she has been commended by her supervisors and the citizens of Houston; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 78th Legislature, hereby commend Captain Tammie Y. Pace on her outstanding public service on behalf of the residents of Houston and congratulate her on her well deserved promotion; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for her as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
