SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 267

	WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas takes pleasure 
in recognizing Dr. Steve Swisher on his selection as Monahans's 
Outstanding Citizen for 2002; and
	WHEREAS, The well-known senior minister of First United 
Methodist Church is a highly respected community leader who has 
played a major role in the betterment of the Monahans community; 
and
	WHEREAS, In addition to his ministry at the First United 
Methodist Church, Steve Swisher also has a television ministry, 
"Positive Power For Living," that is viewed by close to a million 
people; and
	WHEREAS, Active in all aspects of the community, 
Dr. Swisher is the outgoing president of the Monahans Chamber 
of Commerce; he serves on the Monahans State Park board and 
participates in local school activities; and
	WHEREAS, His reputation has spread beyond Monahans; a  
longtime friend of entertainer Wayne Newton, he was invited by 
Mr. Newton to serve as part of the United States Organization 
team entertaining troops worldwide; and
	WHEREAS, Dr. Swisher previously received the Gabriel 
Award, and in November of 2002, he received the Monahans Rotary 
Club's prestigious Paul Harris Award; and
	WHEREAS, An exemplary gentleman and a caring and highly 
respected minister and civic leader, Steve Swisher is a source 
of strength to others, and he deserves recognition for his many 
humanitarian endeavors and accomplishments; now, therefore, be 
it
	RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 
78th Legislature, hereby commend Dr. Steve Swisher for his 
exceptional achievements and extend congratulations to him on 
his selection as Monahans's Outstanding Citizen for 2002; and, be 
it further
	RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for 
him as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
