SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 274

	WHEREAS, March 2, 2003, marks a milestone in the life of 
Mabel Margaret Wingate Lawrence of Orange, for on Texas 
Independence Day she celebrates her 80th birthday; and
	WHEREAS, A native Texan, Mrs. Lawrence was born in Orange 
in 1923, and she has made the community her home throughout her 
life; she married D. D. "Buck" Lawrence, Jr., in 1942, and the 
couple enjoyed a long and devoted union until his passing in 
1984; and
	WHEREAS, The mother of 15 cherished children, Mrs. Lawrence 
worked diligently to make the most of her family's income while 
her children were growing up, and she takes great pride in having 
been able to send each of her children to Catholic schools; and
	WHEREAS, Since that time, her children have embarked on 
careers in medicine, engineering, banking, and law enforcement, 
as well as various other professional endeavors, and her extended 
family has grown to include 50 grandchildren and 13 
great-grandchildren; and
	WHEREAS, A former Republican Party precinct judge,
Mrs. Lawrence continues to give generously of her time and 
talents to various noteworthy organizations in her community, 
including St. Mary's Catholic Church, St. Mary's School, and the 
Republican Party of Orange County; and
	WHEREAS, Blessed with a large and loving family, a rich 
history of community service, and eight decades of wonderful 
memories, Mrs. Lawrence truly has reason to celebrate; now, 
therefore, be it
	RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
78th Legislature, hereby congratulate Mabel Margaret Wingate Lawrence
on the joyous occasion of her 80th birthday and extend to her 
sincere best wishes for continued happiness; and, be it further
	RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be 
prepared for Mrs. Lawrence as an expression of high regard by the 
Texas Senate.
