SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 277
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to recognize the Laredo Community College Honors Program for providing highly motivated and especially talented students with a program of academic excellence; and WHEREAS, Offering Texas' academically gifted students the opportunity to take advanced college classes is a highly laudable educational goal; and WHEREAS, The Laredo Community College Honors Program ensures that students work at an advanced level, thus increasing the opportunity for them to transfer to a prestigious university; and WHEREAS, Students must complete a minimum of 24 semester honors credit hours and may also earn honors credit in regular courses in art, music, and other areas; and WHEREAS, Individuals admitted to the program must graduate from high school in the top ten percent of their class, with a minimum average of 90 in their courses; in addition, they must earn high scores on college entrance examinations and undergo a personal interview; and WHEREAS, The Honors Program offers students full scholarships that cover tuition, fees, and books for up to 66 semester credit hours; and WHEREAS, The Laredo Community College Honors Program has consistently drawn serious students seeking academic excellence, community involvement, and leadership opportunities; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 78th Legislature, hereby commend the Laredo Community College Honors Program for providing gifted students with stimulating experiences and a first-rate educational environment; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for the college as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
