SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 283
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
recognize Eastwood High School of the Ysleta Independent School
District for maintaining a tradition of excellence in academics
and extracurricular activities for more than 30 years; and
WHEREAS, Eastwood High School's mission is to have its
students graduate fluent in two or more languages and prepared
and inspired to enter a four-year postsecondary institution; and
WHEREAS, All students who attend Eastwood High School
enroll in the Distinguished Achievement Graduation Plan; in
addition, more than 10 educational initiatives, including the
Gifted and Talented Program and concurrent college classes, are
available to them; and
WHEREAS, A highly capable and dedicated team of teachers,
counselors, and other professional staff members work together
to ensure that Eastwood students receive the best high school
education possible, and the students' achievements reflect the
staff's commitment to them; 60 percent of the grades earned are
either an A or a B, and 70 percent of the students are involved in
extracurricular activities; since 1994, the students' scores on
the Texas Assessment of Academic Skills in reading and writing
have reached an Exemplary level, and the institution has been
named a Recognized high school by the Texas Education Agency for
five consecutive years; and
WHEREAS, The school actively supports programs that
enhance students' college preparation; advanced placement
courses are available in 12 subjects, and all seniors have taken
the 2003 Scholastic Aptitude Test; and
WHEREAS, Eastwood High School is genuinely committed to
preparing its students for a wide array of professions and for
their role as our state's future leaders, and the school deserves
recognition for its accomplishments; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
78th Legislature, hereby commend Eastwood High School on its
exemplary educational curriculum and programs and extend best
wishes for its continued success; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
the students, teachers, administrators, and families of the
school as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
