SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 287
In Memory
of
Catherine C. Davis
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas honors
and commemorates the life of Catherine C. Davis, who died
November 4, 2000, at the age of 48; and
WHEREAS, Cathy was born in Lake Charles, Louisiana, on
June 7, 1952, to Howard and Paula Cogswell; she graduated from
South Houston High School and received a bachelor's degree from
the University of Houston; and
WHEREAS, She loved working with children and devoted
more than 10 years to teaching art at Red Elementary School; a
successful commercial artist, she also worked with the Houston
Chronicle, Tri Star Advertising, Fingers, and other companies;
and
WHEREAS, An exemplary citizen, Cathy was a loyal volunteer
at M.D. Anderson Hospital and Ben Taub Hospital for many years;
she brought joy to the lives of countless young patients by
visiting with them, reading them stories, and teaching them art;
in addition, she provided the artistry for the bulletin boards of
Patient Education at M.D. Anderson Hospital; and
WHEREAS, A woman of integrity, strength, and generosity,
Cathy gave unselfishly of her time to others, and her wisdom,
warmth, and valued counsel will not be forgotten by those who
knew her; and
WHEREAS, A devout Christian, Cathy was a longtime member of
the Emerson Unitarian Church; and
WHEREAS, Cathy Davis lived her life to the fullest and
was a devoted wife, mother, and daughter, and she left behind
memories that will be treasured forever by her family and many
friends; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
78th Legislature, hereby pay tribute to the life of
Catherine C. Davis and extend sincerest regards to her family:
her husband, Ted Davis; her son, Neil Davis; her parents,
Howard and Paula Cogswell; and her other relatives; and, be it
further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
her family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas
Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in
memory of Catherine C. Davis.
