SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 292
WHEREAS, The Temple College women's tennis team made school
history by winning the 2002 National Junior College Athletic
Association Division II national championship, the Lady
Leopards' first championship title in that sport; and
WHEREAS, At the tournament, which was held in College
Station May 5 through 9, 2002, the top-ranked Lady Leopards
overwhelmed their competition by winning 33 of 36 matches to
capture the coveted crown; and
WHEREAS, This notable achievement was a result of
the dedication and skill of team members Claudia Herrera,
Yevgeniya Barysheva, Amanda Wood, Taylor Ivie, Jamie Munger,
Jennifer Solis, and team captain Stephanie Blaney; and
WHEREAS, Head coach Dick King provided his student
athletes with exceptional guidance and inspiration, and he was
ably supported in his efforts by assistant coach John King; and
WHEREAS, In attaining their first-ever national title, the
Temple College women's tennis team and their coaches and staff
have brought acclaim to their school and this state, and it is
appropriate that they be recognized at this time; now, therefore,
be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
78th Legislature, hereby congratulate the Temple College Lady
Leopards tennis team on winning the 2002 National Junior College
Athletic Association Division II national championship title;
and, be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
the team members and coaching staff as an expression of high
regard by the Texas Senate.
