SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 296
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to join the citizens of North Richland Hills in observing the city's 50th anniversary, which will be celebrated on April 25, 2003; and WHEREAS, The subdivision that would become North Richland Hills was developed in 1952 by Clarence Jones, who had maintained a stock farm in the area north and west of Pipeline Drive and Grapevine Highway; and WHEREAS, In early 1953, the subdivision's residents petitioned Richland Hills for annexation but received no immediate response; a citizen committee met in February and decided to form a private organization, the North Richland Hills Civic League, to foster cooperation, good government, and the social welfare of the community; and WHEREAS, Although the idea of incorporation was controversial and not widely publicized, the subdivision's residents held an election on April 25, 1953, and voters elected 24 to 23 to incorporate; today, the City of North Richland Hills continues to thrive and is an enjoyable place to live and visit; and WHEREAS, The citizens of North Richland Hills can reflect on their history with great pride, and they can look forward to a future of opportunities and challenges as they celebrate 50 years of growth and development; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 78th Legislature, hereby pay tribute to the City of North Richland Hills on its 50th anniversary and extend to its citizens best wishes for a joyful anniversary celebration; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for the citizens of North Richland Hills as an expression of high regard from the Texas Senate.
