SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 311

	WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to 
recognize Charlene Serrette, who has been selected for a 2003 
Texas Excellence Award for Outstanding Teachers; and
	WHEREAS, Charlene Serrette, a teacher at Cinco Ranch 
High School in Katy, is one of 10 high school teachers and two 
elementary school teachers to be chosen as a 2003 honoree; 
and
	WHEREAS, The awards are given on a yearly basis by the 
Ex-Students' Association and the College of Education of 
The University of Texas at Austin to recognize the first-rate 
teachers in our schools; the award also seeks to raise public 
awareness about the impact teachers have in the field of 
education and to raise esteem and appreciation for their 
invaluable work; and
	WHEREAS, Charlene has earned the Bernard and Audre Rapoport
Teaching Award, and by receiving this statewide recognition, 
she has brought great credit to herself and to Cinco Ranch High 
School; she is receiving a bronze sculpture, a $1,250 award, and 
other gifts as a result of her selection for this prestigious 
honor; and
	WHEREAS, Dedicated to her profession, Charlene epitomizes 
excellence in education, for she has demonstrated the ability to 
motivate students to learn and to appreciate the importance of 
attaining an education; and
	WHEREAS, Charlene has earned the admiration and respect of 
her colleagues for her outstanding work as a teacher, and she is 
indeed a role model for educators throughout our state; now, 
therefore, be it
	RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 
78th Legislature, hereby commend Charlene Serrette for her 
exceptional contributions to the educational system of our state 
and congratulate her on earning this award; and, be it further
	RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for 
her as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
