SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 321
WHEREAS, March 6, 2003, serves as a day of remembrance
throughout the Lone Star State for the numerous Tejanos, Texans
of Mexican ancestry, who bravely fought for our liberties and for
the freedom of our state; and
WHEREAS, The board members of the Texas Hispanics
Educating on Law and Politics (H.E.L.P.) strive to encourage
participation in the political process, while actively
supporting nonpartisan issues affecting our state; they provide
education and information to the citizens of the State of Texas
and encourage all Texans to participate, as did our forefathers,
in the fight for the rights of all Texans; and
WHEREAS, Texas Hispanics Educating on Law and Politics
recognizes the efforts of the Tejanos who fought with the Texas
military for Texas' independence from Mexico and pays tribute to
those Tejanos and their descendants; and
WHEREAS, Those Tejanos were an esteemed group who fought
with their heart and soul and gave of their lives for Texas
independence; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
78th Legislature, hereby recognize March 6, 2003, as Tejanos
of Texas Independence Day at the State Capitol and salute the
descendants of those who freed our state.
