SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 326
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to recognize Penny Garza of the Empowering Teen Leaders program; and WHEREAS, Penny and a group of other high school community leaders will visit the State Capitol as a participant in Government in Action on April 3, 2003; and WHEREAS, The Empowering Teen Leaders program, established under The Leadership Center, is carried out in cooperation with the Texas Cooperative Extension of The Texas A&M University System; the program educates high school students in leadership development, coalition building, and communication; and WHEREAS, Since 1992, over 450 young people have been involved in Empowering Teen Leaders, acquiring essential leadership skills and making a positive difference in the lives of their peers; and WHEREAS, As a participant in the program, Penny has contributed meaningful service to many in her community; she has had a positive influence on other young people and encouraged them to become literate, to serve their community, and to respect their fellowman; and WHEREAS, The Empowering Teen Leaders program has enhanced the interest in public service of students such as Penny Garza and has made them aware of the many avenues through which they can serve society; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 78th Legislature, hereby commend Penny Garza for her commitment to civic participation and extend best wishes to her for the future; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for her as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
