SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 338
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
recognize the members of the Community Teen Leaders program
at Austin High School in Houston and to welcome them to the
State Capitol on April 3, 2003; and
WHEREAS, The Community Teen Leaders program was
established under The Leadership Center in cooperation with
the Texas Cooperative Extension of The Texas A&M University
System; the program provides high school students with
education in leadership development, coalition building,
and communication; and
WHEREAS, Community Teen Leaders classes have helped
many young men and women learn how to serve as leaders in their
schools and communities, thus improving the quality of life for
young people and their families; and
WHEREAS, Since 1995, over 200 students have completed the
program, and they have made a positive difference in the lives
of other teenagers and have influenced many to follow in their
footsteps; and
WHEREAS, The young people who have participated in the
Community Teen Leaders Program have encouraged their peers to
become literate, to contribute to their community, and to treat
all people with respect; and
WHEREAS, The opportunity to observe the Texas Legislature
will permit these fine young leaders to witness their state
government in action and encourage them to remain committed to
civic participation; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
78th Legislature, hereby salute the participants in the
Community Teen Leaders program of Austin High School for the
vital leadership roles they have undertaken in their school
and city and extend best wishes to them for an enjoyable and
memorable visit to the State Capitol; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
them as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
