SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 339
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
recognize the Honorable András Simonyi, Hungary's Ambassador
to the United States of America, and to welcome him to the
State Capitol on March 13, 2003; and
WHEREAS, Ambassador Simonyi graduated from Budapest
University in 1975 and holds a doctoral degree in political
science; fluent in five foreign languages, he speaks English,
Danish, German, Dutch, and French; and
WHEREAS, Ambassador Simonyi has distinguished himself
as a member of his country's government; he joined the Foreign
Ministry in 1989 and served as a personal assistant to the
present foreign minister, László Kovács; he subsequently served
as deputy chief of mission in The Hague and as deputy chief of
mission at the Mission of Hungary to the European Communities
and the North Atlantic Treaty Organization in Brussels; and
WHEREAS, Universally respected for his knowledge and
expertise, Ambassador Simonyi became the first Hungarian
permanent representative on the North Atlantic Treaty
Organization Council, serving in that role from 1999 through
2001; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Simonyi was appointed Hungary's Ambassador to
the United States of America in 2002, and in that capacity, he
skillfully handles his many responsibilities representing his
country in this nation; and
WHEREAS, Ambassador Simonyi has graced us with his
distinguished presence, and we are grateful for his friendship
toward the people of Texas; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
78th Legislature, hereby commend Ambassador András Simonyi on
his many accomplishments and extend to him our best wishes for
a memorable visit; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
him as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
