SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 342
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
recognize Mary B. Richardson on the grand occasion of her 80th
birthday; and
WHEREAS, A gracious lady who is well known for her charm
and generosity of spirit, Mary is a revered resident of the
Lakeside Apartments in Austin; and
WHEREAS, Mary Richardson was born in Crumpler, West Virginia,
March 24, 1923, to Mary Louise Campbell and Henry Vinson Bradley;
she graduated from Northfork High School in West Virginia in 1941;
in August of that year, she married Norman O. Bailey, with whom she
raised two children; and
WHEREAS, After moving to Houston in 1969, she married
Robert Richardson and worked as a supervisor in housekeeping and
supply for the Hermann and Sharpstown hospitals; and
WHEREAS, A beloved member of her community, Mary Richardson
is noted for her compassion for others and for her genuinely
friendly nature; she regularly comes to the aid of her neighbors at
the Lakeside Apartments by reading materials in English for those
who do not understand the language and by helping them fill out
paperwork; and
WHEREAS, Mary's family and friends can count on her
unfailing good cheer and her ability to lighten their daily
burdens; she always has time to lend an ear or a shoulder to
console others, and she brings smiles to others by sharing her
jokes to cheer them up; and
WHEREAS, A highly energetic person whose family is an
important part of her life, Mary takes care of her disabled
grandson for several hours every day; and
WHEREAS, Mary Richardson is a lifelong seamstress who sews
for herself, her family, and her friends; in recent years, she
has grown to love the art of quilting, and two years ago, one of
her beautiful quilts was exhibited at the George Washington
Carver Museum in Austin; and
WHEREAS, An exemplary lady who has never met a stranger,
Mary loves to spend her time visiting with her large family and
her many friends; she is especially proud of her daughter,
Elizabeth J. Salinas, and her son, Norman O. Bailey II; she also
takes great delight in her grandsons, granddaughters, and
great-granddaughter, and in her many other beloved family
members; and
WHEREAS, Mary gains strength for her life through her
regular attendance at Teri Road Baptist Church, where she is a
source of moral support to others; indeed, Pastor Gerald Dickerson
refers to her as "Little Mary Sunshine" for her ever present
sunny smile, in illness and in health, and she takes particular
delight in keeping Pastor Dickerson laughing with her ever
ready jokes; and
WHEREAS, A respected member of her community, Mary is
noted for her enthusiasm for living each day to the fullest;
now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
78th Legislature, hereby recognize Mary B. Richardson as a
treasured citizen of Austin and the State of Texas and extend
congratulations to her on this important milestone in her life;
and, be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
her as a memento of her 80th birthday.
