SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 345
	WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to 
recognize March 31, 2003, as Texas Civilian Conservation Corps 
Day at the State Capitol and to welcome the corps alumni who have 
joined us to celebrate their many accomplishments; and
	WHEREAS, President Franklin Delano Roosevelt signed 
legislation creating the Civilian Conservation Corps on
March 31, 1933; corps members are proud to mark the 70th 
anniversary of this important group on March 31; and
	WHEREAS, During the 1930s, the young men of the Civilian 
Conservation Corps built over thirty state parks, numerous 
buildings, and countless landscape features all across our 
state; these young Americans left a distinctive and lasting 
legacy of beauty for future generations of Texans to enjoy; and
	WHEREAS, The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department, which 
administers to and protects the park system for the benefit of 
all our residents, is especially proud of the architectural and 
landscape features the corps created; and
	WHEREAS, Many of the "boys of the Civilian Conservation 
Corps" went on to serve the cause of freedom as soldiers during 
World War II; and
	WHEREAS, These exemplary citizens deserve the admiration 
and respect of all Texans for their contributions to our state 
and to the nation; the designation of Texas Civilian Conservation 
Corps Day is a fitting tribute to their exceptional work in the 
service of their fellowman; now, therefore, be it

	RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
78th Legislature, hereby commend the members of the Civilian 
Conservation Corps for the outstanding parks, buildings, and 
landscapes they created for generations of Texans; and, be it 
further
	RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for 
them as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
