SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 356
In Memory
of
Raul Tijerina Gonzalez
WHEREAS, The Texas Senate joins the citizens of
San Antonio in mourning the death of Raul Tijerina Gonzalez,
who died March 1, 2003, at the age of 88; and
WHEREAS, Raulito was born in Topo Chico, Nuevo Leon, Mexico,
on March 12, 1914, to Amador and Marianna Gonzalez; he enjoyed a
happy marriage for 63 years to Maria Bernadina Mauricio Gonzalez,
with whom he was blessed to have five children; and
WHEREAS, He served as head waiter for 25 years at the
Casa Blanca Cafe; there he was known as "the waiter with iron
nerves" for his ability to serve his customers with skill and
confidence; over the years, he attended to numerous dignitaries
who visited the restaurant, including two Texas governors,
several San Antonio mayors, a former president of Mexico, and
several ambassadors; and
WHEREAS, He also worked at Lanier High School and
Charles Grabner Elementary School before retiring in 1977; and
WHEREAS, An exemplary citizen, Raulito was respected in
the community for his many accomplishments; he was a member of
Communities Organized for Public Service, USA, and belonged to
Our Lady of Angels Senior Citizens; and
WHEREAS, Raul always impressed those he met with his
friendly nature and his positive attitude toward life; he was
popular in his neighborhood, where he was fond of visiting and
playing cards with his neighbors; and
WHEREAS, A man of integrity, strength, and generosity,
Raulito gave unselfishly of his time to others, and his wisdom,
warmth, and valued counsel will not be forgotten by those who
knew him; and
WHEREAS, A devout Christian, Raulito was a member of
Saint James the Apostle Catholic Church, where he served as an
usher and as a Eucharistic minister; he was also an active member
of the Holy Name Society and the Knights of Columbus; and
WHEREAS, Raulito Gonzalez was a devoted husband, father,
and grandfather, and he leaves behind memories that will be
treasured forever by his family and many friends; now, therefore,
be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
78th Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the
bereaved family of Raul Tijerina Gonzalez: his wife,
Maria Bernadina Mauricio Gonzalez; his sons, Richard, Humberto,
and Raul M. Gonzalez; his daughters, Anna Maria Lomas and
Maria Magdalena G. Treviño; his brother, Manuel T. Gonzalez; and
his 10 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; and, be it
further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
the members of his family as an expression of deepest sympathy
from the Texas Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this
day, it do so in memory of Raul Gonzalez.
