SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 363
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to recognize the Star of Texas Fair and Rodeo, which takes place at the Travis County Exposition Center from March 22 through April 5, and to declare March 20, 2003, as Star of Texas Fair and Rodeo Day at the State Capitol; and WHEREAS, Established more than 65 years ago, the Star of Texas Fair and Rodeo is a nonprofit organization dedicated to the development and education of the youth of the Lone Star State; to that end, it conducts the annual 15-day fair and rodeo to generate funds that provide academic scholarships, educational programs, and career development funding for students in Central Texas; and WHEREAS, The Star of Texas Fair and Rodeo, which ranks as the largest educational fund-raiser for Central Texas youth, offers kindergartners through high school seniors in a 45-county region the opportunity to take part in and enjoy numerous educational and enlightening programs; more than $1.2 million was raised in 2002, and the same goal is set for this year; the money will benefit more than 2,000 young people in the counties that participate in the fair and rodeo; and WHEREAS, During the event, the fair and rodeo fairgrounds are host to a multitude of educational programs, various live entertainment venues, and a carnival; other attractions include the PRCA Rodeo, a livestock show, a youth fair, Fun Runs, a Sunrise Stampede, and a Rodeo Rumble; patrons of the extravaganza are also treated to a Cowboy Breakfast and Barbecue Cook-Off and have the opportunity to shop with the fair's vendors; and WHEREAS, The organizers and volunteers of the Star of Texas Fair and Rodeo have shown an impressive commitment to ensuring the well-being and development of the youth of Texas, and it is indeed a privilege to commend these individuals for providing Central Texas with such worthwhile and exciting events; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 78th Legislature, hereby recognize March 20, 2003, as Star of Texas Fair and Rodeo Day at the State Capitol and extend to all those associated with the event best wishes for an enjoyable day and a successful fair and rodeo.
