SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 372
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased
to extend a cordial welcome to the members of the Hispanic
Women's Network of Texas who are visiting the State Capitol
on March 17, 2003; and
WHEREAS, Founded in 1987, this statewide voluntary
organization is an advocacy group that strives to provide a
leadership forum for Hispanic women from all socioeconomic
backgrounds; and
WHEREAS, The organization's mission is to enhance the
growth, visibility, and future of Hispanic women and to assist
them in their pursuit of social, economic, and political gains;
and
WHEREAS, The members of the Hispanic Women's Network
of Texas are dedicated and talented women whose strength of
character and perseverance have enabled the organization to
flourish; the group is proud to have chapters in Austin,
Corpus Christi, Dallas, El Paso, Fort Worth, San Antonio, and
the Rio Grande Valley; and
WHEREAS, Through the Hispanic Women's Network of Texas
Education Series, the organization has brought approximately
120 young women to Austin to visit the State Capitol and
The University of Texas at Austin; their visit to the university
will allow them to gain a deeper appreciation of the way the
school operates and to learn how to make a smooth transition from
high school to college; indeed, these young people will have the
opportunity to meet with university administrators to learn more
about the application process and other important issues, such as
financial aid, retention, and graduation; and
WHEREAS, A highly successful and inspirational group, the
Hispanic Women's Network of Texas has helped to reshape the role
of Hispanic women by providing them with the knowledge, skills,
and courage to pursue new opportunities; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
78th Legislature, hereby commend the exceptional accomplishments
of the Hispanic Women's Network of Texas and extend best wishes
to them for a most rewarding visit to the Capitol; and, be it
further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared
for the organization as an expression of esteem from the
Texas Senate.
