SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 384

	WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to 
recognize the 100th anniversary of the Tarrant County Medical 
Society; and
	WHEREAS, The Tarrant County Medical Society held its
first meeting April 14, 1903, and was formally established in 
August of 1903 by 36 physicians; the purpose of the organization 
was to bring all the area's doctors into one organization for 
exchanging information and viewpoints through frequent meetings 
and to ensure respect and support for the physicians' 
professional stature in the community; and
	WHEREAS, Throughout its long history, the Tarrant County 
Medical Society has protected public health by addressing such 
health concerns as tuberculosis, polio, the blood supply, air 
pollution and other significant issues; and
	WHEREAS, The society's more than 2,500 members serve 
Tarrant County's residents by providing their expertise to 
indigent health care clinics, nursing homes, public schools,
and a number of community organizations; and
	WHEREAS, The society also acts as a professional advocate 
for physicians in such areas as regulation, legislation, and 
practice management; and
	WHEREAS, During its centennial, the society is sponsoring 
several medical seminars, and throughout the year, an educational 
exhibit highlighting the accomplishments of Tarrant County 
physicians will be displayed throughout the county; now, 
therefore, be it
	RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
78th Legislature, hereby commend the Tarrant County Medical 
Society on its invaluable contributions to the community and 
extend to its members best wishes for the future; and, be it 
further
	RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for 
the organization as an expression of esteem from the
Texas Senate.
