SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 398
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
recognize Coach Joe Lombard on earning his 10th state girls'
basketball championship title; and
WHEREAS, Coach Lombard is finishing his 25th year of
coaching basketball; he spent seven years at Nazareth High
School, and he has spent 18 years at Canyon High School; with the
recent victory of the Canyon Lady Eagles over Kountze High
School, he collected his 10th state girls' title; and
WHEREAS, In recognition of his exceptional achievements,
Coach Lombard was named the National High School Coach of the
Year by the prestigious Women's Basketball Coaches Association,
and he will be honored at the 2003 National Collegiate Athletic
Association Division I Women's Final Four in Atlanta; in April,
he will coach the Red Team in the Women's Basketball Coaches
Association All-America high school game; and
WHEREAS, Lombard's coaching record is 844-77, an unheard of
winning percentage of .916; during the past 15 years, his record
includes a 164-2 district mark and 15 consecutive district
titles; and
WHEREAS, The impressive success of his teams over the years
demonstrates his expertise and sound judgment and is a tribute to
his exemplary leadership skills and professionalism; Coach
Lombard sets high standards for his players, and he is a positive
influence on the lives of his students and colleagues; now,
therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
78th Legislature, hereby commend Joe Lombard for his outstanding
career as coach of the young people of this state and extend best
wishes to him for continued success; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
him as an expression of high regard from the Texas Senate.
