SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 404
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
recognize La Sociedad de Mutualistas de Benito Juarez on the
occasion of its 80th anniversary; and
WHEREAS, The mutual aid society, also known as the
Benito Juarez Association, was established on August 20, 1922;
its founding purpose was to help members defend themselves
against discrimination, to provide monetary support and counseling
to the needy, and to help prospective business owners establish
themselves; and
WHEREAS, Over the years, operating under the motto "Unity,
Equality, Fraternity," the association has been a source of
strength to numerous families; its members have donated much of
their time to public service, and the association has hosted
cultural presentations, family gatherings, and celebrations of
United States and Mexican holidays; and
WHEREAS, The Benito Juarez Association has succeeded for
eight decades due to the dedication of its members, who represent
a diverse cross section of the community; today, the organization
continues to ensure that new Latino leaders represent the needs
of their communities at all levels of society and in both public
and private sectors; and
WHEREAS, The association has blazed important paths by
assisting countless needy families and by breaking down barriers
to education, freedom, and equal rights, and its members deserve
recognition for their many accomplishments; now, therefore, be
it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
78th Legislature, hereby commend and congratulate La Sociedad
Mutualistas de Benito Juarez for its exemplary achievements;
and, be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
the association as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
