SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 406
	WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to 
join the citizens of Austin in recognizing Margaret Perry for 
her 30 years of exemplary service in music education; and
	WHEREAS, Margaret Perry is being honored at the third 
anniversary celebration on March 29, 2003, of the Armstrong 
Community Music School of the Austin Lyric Opera; she founded 
the school to provide broader access for all the community to the 
musical arts through performances and instruction in a variety 
of musical styles; she serves as the director of the school and is 
credited with its tremendous success; and
	WHEREAS, A native Texan, Margaret was trained originally 
as a harpsichordist; she performed with Baroque music groups 
around Texas and served for several years as the pianist for the 
Houston Ballet; and
	WHEREAS, She taught music in both public and private 
schools in the United States and Europe and maintained a private 
piano teaching practice in Austin for 28 years; she has lectured 
for many years to people of all ages on the lives of composers and 
on music history; and
	WHEREAS, Margaret is active throughout the community, 
and she has served on boards of trustees for both performing arts 
and social service organizations; she has been the director of 
education for Austin Lyric Opera for the past 10 years, and she is 
chair of the Southwest Region for the National Guild of Community 
Schools of the Arts; and

	WHEREAS, An exemplary and dedicated arts advocate, Margaret 
has contributed extensively to the field of music education and 
to the Austin community and this state, and in honor of her 
invaluable service and accomplishments, the Armstrong Community 
Music School is proclaiming March 29, 2003, Margaret Perry Day; 
now, therefore, be it
	RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 
78th Legislature, hereby commend Margaret Perry for her many 
contributions to the arts and extend congratulations to her on 
the third anniversary of the founding of the Armstrong Community 
Music School; and, be it further
	RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for 
her as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
