SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 414
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to recognize Susan Jeske, the reigning Ms. America, who is presenting her Students Against Violence program to students at Nimitz High School in Houston on March 28, 2003; and WHEREAS, Susan Jeske, a native of Littleton, Colorado, has traveled over 10,000 miles per month presenting her violence prevention program and has visited over 90 high schools and junior high schools nationwide; she has been featured on numerous magazines and radio and television programs, and she has been recognized internationally for her efforts to stop school violence; and WHEREAS, She has a special connection with violence and its consequences--her family was friends with one of the victims shot during the tragedy at Columbine High School in Littleton; and WHEREAS, Susan challenges students to face the causes of violence in today's high schools and its consequences and explains to them that they have the power to make their school and their community violence free by taking personal responsibility for their actions; and WHEREAS, Susan Jeske is dedicated to helping the young people of our world and is an exemplary spokesperson for the prevention of violence, and she deserves recognition for her hard work and the outstanding programs she brings to our schools; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 78th Legislature, hereby commend Susan Jeske for her tireless efforts working with young people to prevent violence and extend best wishes to her for the future; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for her as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
