SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 415
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
join the City of Houston and the students and staff at Nimitz
High School in recognizing Students Against Violence Day on
March 28, 2003; and
WHEREAS, The reigning Ms. America, Susan Jeske, will
present her Students Against Violence assembly program to the
school and discuss causes of violence and ways to prevent it;
her message emphasizes that students must take personal
responsibility to keep themselves and their school violence
free; and
WHEREAS, Violence is a detriment to the welfare of our
schools and communities; its tragic consequences entail enormous
costs in loss of lives, disabilities, and social problems; and
WHEREAS, As the level of violence in the general society
has risen sharply, so has violence among our youth; young people
are more likely than adults to be victims of violence; and
WHEREAS, Violence is preventable; a safe and healthy
school and community can be achieved through the commitment on
many levels by parents, communities, educators, and students;
and
WHEREAS, The students, faculty, and administration of
Nimitz High School deserve recognition for hosting a Students
Against Violence Day program, which will help to ensure that
every student can attend school free of fear and prepared for
learning; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
78th Legislature, hereby recognize all associated with Nimitz
High School for participating in Students Against Violence Day
and extend best wishes to them for a successful and productive
program; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared
for Nimitz High School as an expression of esteem from the
Texas Senate.
