SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 421
WHEREAS, The Neches Heritage Day celebration is being held
on March 29, 2003, and this festive event provides a fitting
opportunity to honor one of the city's outstanding leaders,
Gary Holcomb, the superintendent of Neches Independent School
District; and
WHEREAS, A native Texan, Mr. Holcomb was born in Texas City
in 1948 and graduated from Stephen F. Austin State University in
1970; he embarked on a career in education that has spanned three
decades and won the respect and admiration of students, teachers,
and parents alike; and
WHEREAS, After working as a teacher in Jasper and Lufkin
and earning a master's degree, this esteemed gentleman joined
the staff of Neches Independent School District; over the ensuing
25 years, he served the district in virtually every possible
capacity, including working as a bus driver, teacher, and
principal; Mr. Holcomb assumed his current position as
superintendent four years ago; and
WHEREAS, Gary Holcomb is a man of integrity, wisdom, and
natural leadership ability, and it is a pleasure to join the
residents of Neches in honoring him at this time; now, therefore,
be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
78th Legislature, hereby commend Gary Holcomb on his noteworthy
career as an educator and administrator and extend to him sincere
best wishes for the future; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be
prepared for Mr. Holcomb as an expression of high regard by the
Texas Senate.
