SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 445
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to recognize April 9, 2003, as Big Spring Area Day at the State Capitol; and WHEREAS, A West Texas city with a rich history, Big Spring moves into the future as the "Crossroads of West Texas" with the thriving McMahon-Wrinkle Airport and with Industrial Park, which is home to a host of companies serving regional, national, and international markets; and WHEREAS, Serving as a regional hub for health care, Big Spring is the location of Big Spring State Hospital, West Texas Centers for Mental Health/Mental Retardation, West Texas Veterans Administration Health Care Systems, Scenic Mountain Medical Center, Covenant Malone-Hogan Clinic, and Lamun-Lusk-Sanchez State Veterans Home; and WHEREAS, Big Spring maintains a vital oil and gas, farming, and ranching industry and recognizes the importance of diversifying the economic base and establishing industries such as teleservices, petroleum refining, and plastics and composites manufacturing; and WHEREAS, Big Spring provides a skilled workforce through training programs provided at Howard College and South West Collegiate Institute for the Deaf and encourages students from the Big Spring, Coahoma, and Forsan Independent School districts to acquire workforce skills through such programs as Career Day and Next Generation Day; and WHEREAS, Big Spring promotes community improvement by offering affordable housing in the recently constructed Limestone Ridge apartment complex and by the renovations of houses in Howard County through the Fresh Start program; and WHEREAS, Big Spring recognizes the dignity of each human being and continues to meet the basic needs of all its citizens by providing job opportunities, recreation, and education, thus ensuring a vital and prosperous quality of life; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 78th Legislature, hereby extend best wishes to the citizens of Big Spring, Texas, for a most successful Big Spring Area Day at the Texas Capitol.
