SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 446
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
recognize Sisters Network, Incorporated, on the occasion of its
fifth annual African American Breast Cancer National Conference,
which takes place in Houston from April 4 through April 6, 2003;
and
WHEREAS, Sisters Network, Incorporated, was the first
national African American breast cancer survivors' organization
to be established; and
WHEREAS, Founded in 1994 by its president, Karen E. Jackson,
the organization operates chapters across the nation and has over
2,500 members; and
WHEREAS, Sisters Network, Incorporated, is a critical
resource for African American women with breast cancer; the
organization is committed to increasing local and national
attention to the devastating impact breast cancer has in the
African American community; and
WHEREAS, The organization promotes the importance of
support, breast health education, advocacy, and research through
its annual conferences; the affiliate chapters, educational
outreach projects, organizational collaborations, corporate
partnerships, and private donations also furnish vital resources
to combat this disease among African American women; and
WHEREAS, Managed by survivors, Sisters Network,
Incorporated, brings important medical information and hope
to many women in the community; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
78th Legislature, hereby commend Sisters Network, Incorporated,
for its outstanding work on behalf of our nation's women and
their health and extend best wishes to all associated with this
organization for a successful conference; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared
for Sisters Network, Incorporated, as an expression of esteem
from the Texas Senate.
