SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 455
In Memory
of
Osro Lycurgus Watson, Jr.
WHEREAS, The Texas Senate joins the citizens of Mansfield in mourning the loss of Osro Lycurgus "O.L." Watson, Jr., who died March 7, 2003, at the age of 70; and WHEREAS, A patriotic American, O.L. served in Korea in the United States Army's famed 45th "Thunderbird" Infantry Division; and WHEREAS, O.L. had a long and notable career in local politics; first elected justice of the peace at the age of 25, he later served the people of Tarrant County as a constable and then as a commissioner; initially a Democrat, he switched to the Republican Party in 1980; his commissioner's district covered most of southeast Tarrant County, including Arlington, Mansfield, and Kennedale; and WHEREAS, Over the years, O.L. became well known for his genuine love of politics and his encyclopedic knowledge of Tarrant County and its people; and WHEREAS, O.L.'s experience in law enforcement led to his appointment by former governors Bill Clements and Dolph Briscoe to the state's Crime Prevention Commission and to the Criminal Justice Division Advisory Board; and WHEREAS, A man with a strong entrepreneurial spirit, O.L. was at various times a newspaper pressman, a restaurant owner, an insurance company owner, a real estate agent, and a rancher; and WHEREAS, O.L. was noted for his engaging and forthright personality; he was a colorful figure who was beloved for his sense of humor and his bigheartedness, and he was respected in his community for his accomplishments and leadership; and WHEREAS, O.L. lived his life to the fullest and was a devoted father, and he leaves behind memories that will be treasured forever by his family and many friends; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 78th Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the family of Osro Lycurgus Watson, Jr.: his son, Owen L. Watson; his daughter and son-in-law, Benette and Johnnie Isenberg; and his granddaughter, Jennifer Isenberg; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for the members of his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Osro Lycurgus Watson, Jr. Brimer ________________________________ President of the Senate I hereby certify that the above Resolution was adopted by the Senate on March 26, 2003, by a rising vote. ________________________________ Secretary of the Senate ________________________________ Member, Texas Senate
