SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 459
	WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas takes pleasure in 
recognizing the well-known Brazoria County newspaper, The Facts, 
on the grand occasion of its 90th anniversary; and
	WHEREAS, The Freeport Facts published its first edition
in 1913 in Velasco, which was one of Brazoria County's largest 
cities at the time; the paper has since chronicled the county's 
growth from a farm and fishing community to an industrial 
community, and at the same time, it has played a vital role
in that development; and
	WHEREAS, In 1916, the owner of the newspaper and an 
employee of Freeport Sulfur Company, the largest employer in the 
county at that time, presented a petition to incorporate Freeport 
as a city, and 40 years later, Freeport and Velasco merged; and
	WHEREAS, A few years after it was first published, the 
newspaper was bought by the Kendall family, who operated it until 
1952, when it was acquired by Southern Newspapers, Incorporated, 
the company that still owns it; and
	WHEREAS, Over time, The Freeport Facts became the 
Brazosport Facts, and then simply The Facts; in 1957, Jim Nabors 
became the newspaper's publisher, and under his leadership,
The Facts grew from a circulation of 2,000 to nearly 20,000 and 
became the major daily newspaper in Brazoria County; and
	WHEREAS, The Facts moved from Freeport to its present 
location in Clute in 1974; over the years, the name and location 
of the newspaper have changed, but The Facts has remained a


steadfast source of information and support to the communities of 
Brazoria County; now, therefore, be it
	RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
78th Legislature, hereby recognize The Facts on the joyous 
occasion of its 90th anniversary and extend congratulations
to all those responsible for its continuous publication in
Brazoria County; and, be it further
	RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared as an 
expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
