SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 468
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
recognize the Campus Recreation and Wellness Center at the
University of Houston on the occasion of its grand opening
celebration on March 31, 2003; and
WHEREAS, University officials, faculty, staff, students,
and distinguished guests will inaugurate this exciting new
center by holding a special program and ceremony and hosting
tours for the public; and
WHEREAS, Covering more than 264,000 square feet, the
facility has many modern and innovative features; and
WHEREAS, Open to all students, the Campus Recreation and
Wellness Center features a state-of-the-art swimming pool that
measures 70 meters by 25 yards; it is expected to be the longest
pool in Texas; and
WHEREAS, In addition, the center has 24,000 square feet
of weight equipment, a four-lane indoor jogging track, an
indoor climbing wall that measures more than 53 feet, and six
multipurpose aerobic rooms; and
WHEREAS, The University of Houston's new Campus Recreation
and Wellness Center will provide students with many opportunities
to train for a host of sports and to maintain a healthy lifestyle;
now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
78th Legislature, hereby commend the University of Houston
on this first-rate new facility and extend best wishes to all
associated with the university for a joyful grand opening for
this vital addition to the campus; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
the university as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
