SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 470

	WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to 
recognize Bobby Johnson, winner of Volunteer Houston's 2003 
Mentoring Essay Contest for 10th through 12th grade levels; and

	WHEREAS, The mentors associated with the Community 
Education Partners program in Houston have made a positive and 
significant difference in the lives of many young people; and

	WHEREAS, Volunteer Houston invited students to write 
essays recognizing their mentors during National Mentoring
Month in January of 2003; and

	WHEREAS, Bobby Johnson, of the Houston Independent
School District, was one of 145 young people who entered the 
competition; in his award-winning essay, he described the 
favorable and powerful role his mentor has played in his life; 
and

	WHEREAS, This young man has benefited greatly from the 
HISD-CEP Partnership Program, and he has truly succeeded in 
achieving some of his dreams; now, therefore, be it

	RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
78th Legislature, hereby commend Bobby Johnson on his hard work 
and superior accomplishments and extend congratulations to him 
on winning the 2003 Mentoring Essay Contest; and, be it further

	RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for 
him as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
