SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 479
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
recognize Cody De Leon, of the Houston Independent School
District, who won Volunteer Houston's 2003 Mentoring Essay
Contest for 7th-grade through 9th-grade levels; and
WHEREAS, In celebration of National Mentoring Month in
January of 2003, Volunteer Houston invited students from fourth
through 12th grades to write essays in honor of their mentors;
and
WHEREAS, Cody was at one time an honor roll student who
dropped out of school for approximately two years; upon his
return to school, he had a difficult time adjusting; after he
entered the Community Education Partners program, his life
turned in a more positive direction; and
WHEREAS, Now this fine young man has not only stayed in
school, but he has again made the honor roll, a goal he had once
believed would never again be within his reach; and
WHEREAS, Cody De Leon has been given the opportunity to
succeed through the HISD-CEP Partnership Program, and he has
written an excellent essay in recognition of this valuable
mentoring initiative; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
78th Legislature, hereby commend Cody De Leon for striving
to do his best and extend congratulations to him on earning
the 2003 Mentoring Essay Contest; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
him as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
