SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 483
WHEREAS, The year 2003 marks the 100th anniversary of the Texas Veterinary Medical Association, and in honor of this milestone, April 1, 2003, is Texas Veterinary Medical Association Day at the State Capitol; and WHEREAS, The association was established in 1903, and its original mission was to promote cooperation among its members, to supply a medium for exchange of professional experiences, and to encourage, develop, and protect the veterinary profession within the state; and WHEREAS, The Texas Veterinary Medical Association assisted the Texas Legislature in establishing the first act governing the practice of veterinary medicine and played an important role in the creation of the School of Veterinary Medicine at Texas A&M University, one of the premier veterinary schools in the United States today; and WHEREAS, Today, the mission of the association is to advance the art and science of veterinary medicine, to protect public health, to promote high educational, ethical, and moral standards within the profession, and to educate the public concerning animal health and its relationship to human health; and WHEREAS, The Texas Veterinary Medical Association currently counts more than 3,000 licensed veterinarians among its members and assists over 30 local veterinary medical associations across the state, and the group provides support services that enable members to practice the best medicine possible; and WHEREAS, The association has produced a number of leaders who have gone on to serve as president of the American Veterinary Medical Association, organized veterinary medicine's highest position, including the current unopposed candidate, president-elect Dr. Bonnie Beaver; and WHEREAS, For the past century, the Texas Veterinary Medical Association has been an invaluable asset to its members, and it will undoubtedly continue its illustrious legacy of service to veterinarians and residents of the Lone Star State for years to come; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 78th Legislature, hereby honor the Texas Veterinary Medical Association on its 100th anniversary and declare April 1, 2003, Texas Veterinary Medical Association Day at the State Capitol; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for the Texas Veterinary Medical Association as an expression of high regard from the Texas Senate.
